Art is an essential part of a civilised society. It brings us together both individually and in community to be inspired, share ideas, enjoy beauty; and continue the expression of cultural values through our innate creativity, linking us to the natural world and each other.
Galerie Grand rue 9 is located in the magical village of Bugarach, France. Situated remotely in the picturesque upper Aude valley; within the Corbieres foothills of the Pyrenees in the region of Occitanie (the new name for the region of Languedoc Roussillon); it is surrounded by dramatic and unspoilt countryside. Nearby are small medieval villages, castles, rivers and gorges; with a rich and complex history. Many have sought and found sanctuary here; including the early Romans, the Cathares, Templars, and others before and after. Jules Verne found inspiration for writing 'Journey to the Center of the Earth' while visiting Bugarach; and Poussin painted the valley landscapes.
The founder has lovingly restored an ancient stone house that was formerly the Old Post Office building for the village of Bugarach; and transformed it into an inspired combination of her Atelier/Studio, a Gallery for fine contemporary art, Residences for visiting Artists; and work spaces. Workshops and related events can also be offered.
Fine contemporary artworks by local regional artists; and works by visiting artists are included on a changing basis. The residences are open to individuals or groups, by application.

Spirit of the place
"In order to make progress,
The vision of Galerie Grand rue 9 is to encourage and support creative expression by providing a unique and supportive opportunity for a diversity of individuals and groups to nurture, exhibit, and celebrate their creative gifts in this extraordinarily beautiful natural environment beneath the Pic de Bugarach. It is hoped that visitors will find fresh inspiration from the rugged local terrain ‘terre sauvage’ ; together with the discovery of the complex tapestry of culture and history in this region.
Galerie Grand rue 9 was founded in 2015 by artist /architect Diana Liljelund who has worked in architecture, design and art in different capacities internationally for over thirty years. She believes that that art is an essential part of a civilised society. It brings us together both individually and in community. Her hope is that Galerie Grand rue 9 will be a threshold for this creative convergence; and become a source and resource for inspiration and creation. An intimate destination for the arts.
